Healthy teeth are about far more than appearance: they allow your pet to eat without pain and protect the whole body. Bacteria from dental plaque enter the bloodstream and can damage the liver, kidneys or heart valves. At Kleintierzentrum Arndt we therefore rely on consistent prevention and careful treatment of diseased teeth.
Professional dental cleaning
The only effective method against plaque and tartar is mechanical removal from the tooth surface. In our practice we gently loosen the deposits using a special ultrasonic device – not only the visible plaque but also the part beneath the gumline and in the periodontal pockets. A thorough polish and a fluoride seal complete the treatment and slow down the formation of new plaque.
Periodontology
Did you know that gum inflammation is by far the most common condition in dogs and cats? More than 80 percent of all animals over the age of six suffer from diseases of the tooth-supporting structures (periodontitis). There is no cure, but ideally the condition can be halted. We show you which measures will protect your pet’s teeth in the long term.
Our range of treatments
To preserve and restore dental health, we offer a broad range of treatments:
- Professional dental cleaning with polishing and fluoride sealing
- Conservative dental treatments using special filling therapies
- Root canal treatment to preserve even non-vital teeth
- Tooth restoration: crowning of broken or heavily worn teeth
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery, for example for displaced teeth
- Orthodontic measures for misaligned teeth and jaws
Dental conditions specific to cats
Two conditions occur with above-average frequency in cats: resorption of the hard dental tissue (FORL) and chronic inflammation of the oral mucosa (gingivitis/stomatitis). To examine FORL in particular, we use our low-radiation, high-resolution volume tomograph, which depicts this condition even better than digital dental X-ray.
Dental imaging
To prepare for more complex procedures, a volume tomograph developed specifically for animals is available. With low radiation and at high speed, it produces high-resolution 3D images of the dentition and reveals hidden problems at the tooth roots and jaw – in a quality superior to conventional dental X-ray.
Safe anaesthesia
Most dental treatments in animals are only possible under anaesthesia or sedation. We have chosen the safest form – inhalation anaesthesia. Before every anaesthetic we check for possible pre-existing conditions with a blood test. During the procedure we continuously monitor all vital functions using a respiratory monitor, pulse oximeter, ECG and blood pressure measurement.
