Internal medicine is a central field of veterinary medicine, dealing with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases of the internal organs. At Kleintierzentrum Arndt we place great value on comprehensive medical care in order to preserve or improve your pet’s quality of life.
What internal medicine covers
Internal medicine includes diseases of organs such as the lungs, liver, kidneys or intestines, as well as infectious diseases and metabolic disorders such as diabetes, blood disorders such as anaemia, immunological disorders, and many skin conditions and neurological deficits. These conditions often progress rather inconspicuously, so that further examinations become necessary. This makes a thorough medical history, confident handling of the diagnostic equipment and the correct interpretation of findings all the more important.
Comprehensive diagnostics
The basis of successful treatment lies in thorough diagnostics. For this we use state-of-the-art technologies:
- Laboratory diagnostics with blood, urine and faecal tests
- Imaging procedures such as X-ray, ultrasound and computed tomography (CT)
- ECG and blood pressure measurement
- Endoscopy as a minimally invasive method to examine the stomach, intestines or lungs
Detailed laboratory tests such as blood diagnostics and cytology are available, as are digital X-ray and ultrasound, so that we can reliably investigate even more complex internal conditions.
Individual therapy
Based on the diagnostics, we develop an individual treatment approach for your pet. After an initial discussion, we decide together with you on how to proceed. Many patients can be examined and treated on an outpatient basis, while others must be admitted as inpatients depending on the severity of the illness. Our range of treatments extends from drug therapy through nutritional advice and physiotherapy to interventional procedures.
Prevention as part of internal medicine
Regular preventive care is crucial for your pet’s health. We offer preventive programmes tailored to age, breed and individual needs – from vaccinations and parasite prevention through cancer screening to cardiovascular examinations, which are especially important in older animals.
Working with specialists
To provide optimal care even for complex conditions, we work closely with specialists. Experienced experts in oncology, cardiology and neurology are at our side. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that your pet receives comprehensive and effective treatment even for difficult illnesses.
