Every successful treatment is based on a reliable diagnosis. At Kleintierzentrum Arndt we rely on modern, all-in-one diagnostics: an in-house laboratory, high-resolution ultrasound, digital X-ray and computed tomography work hand in hand. This means you often receive important results the same day, and therapeutic decisions can be made without delay.

In-house laboratory

To be able to determine the most important parameters within minutes, we maintain our own laboratory at the practice. In emergencies in particular, the rapid determination of blood values is a decisive advantage, allowing life-saving measures to be taken in good time. Our laboratory is equipped with devices from Idexx, among others. Our diagnostic capabilities include:

  • Blood tests to diagnose infectious, autoimmune and metabolic diseases
  • Urine analysis to assess kidney and urinary tract conditions
  • Parasitology and bacteriology
  • Cytology and histopathology to investigate tumours
  • Blood typing

In-house results are available the same day. Samples for the partner external laboratory are collected daily by courier; we usually receive those findings within one to three days.

Ultrasound (sonography)

Ultrasound is a painless, gentle method that generally requires no anaesthesia. Using a high-resolution device from esaote (MyLab Six) and various transducers, we assess abdominal organs such as the liver, kidneys, spleen, gastrointestinal tract and bladder, as well as cardiac function (echocardiography). Examination of the reproductive organs, the musculature and the eyes is also possible. Sonography complements the X-ray examination ideally.

Digital X-ray

We work with the high-resolution Perkin-Elmer detector (XRpad4343), which delivers state-of-the-art results. Digital X-ray offers a lower radiation dose, an extremely short processing time of under one minute and excellent detail. On the computer we can take precise organ measurements and zoom in on the smallest changes. The technique is used in orthopaedics as well as in thoracic and abdominal diagnostics.

Computed tomography (CT)

For particularly detailed questions, our volume tomograph (Claris V CBCT scanner) is available. It produces genuine 3D images at low radiation exposure and with a short examination time, which shortens the duration of anaesthesia. Typical areas of application are dental imaging (such as FORL in cats), the diagnosis of tumours and metastases, the setting of bone fractures and pre-operative planning. The 3D data produced can even be used for printing on our in-house 3D printer.
