A successful operation begins with a reliable diagnosis. At Kleintierzentrum Arndt we combine extensive diagnostic capabilities – computed tomography (CT), digital X-ray and ultrasound – with the surgical care that follows from them and careful post-operative inpatient supervision. In this way we accompany your pet from the initial diagnosis, through the procedure, to recovery.

Orthopaedics and bone surgery

The most common reason for orthopaedic procedures is bone fractures. Several osteosynthesis techniques are available for stabilisation: plate osteosynthesis with an angle-stable locking system, intramedullary nailing, and the external fixator for external splinting. We also perform numerous joint operations, for example for patellar luxation, meniscus and ligament tears, or hip joint luxations.

TPLO for cruciate ligament rupture

A cruciate ligament rupture is a painful diagnosis that, left untreated, leads to progressive arthritis. We treat this injury using the scientifically established TPLO procedure (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy). Instead of replacing the torn ligament, we change the statics of the bone with a precise osteotomy: the tibial plateau is rotated until the sloped surface is neutralised and the joint is once again stable on its own. For fixation we use the StarLoc® titanium system, which offers high biocompatibility and angular stability. During every TPLO we also inspect the meniscus, which is damaged as well in many cases.

Soft-tissue and tumour surgery

Our surgical range extends from wound care to demanding procedures on internal organs. These include:

  • Skin surgery: wound revision, skin flap plasty, reconstructive surgery and tumour removal
  • Procedures on the ear, eye and in the nasal and oral cavities
  • Operations on the gastrointestinal tract, for example for gastric torsion (gastric dilatation-volvulus)
  • Procedures on the spleen, liver, gallbladder and pancreas
  • Operations on the urogenital system, including neutering, pyometra and caesarean section
  • Treatment of brachycephalic syndrome

Diagnostics as the foundation

Before every procedure we obtain a precise picture using modern imaging. CT, digital X-ray and ultrasound enable pre-operative planning of fracture repair and the exact assessment of tumours and joints. On this basis we choose the gentlest and most effective procedure for your pet.

Inpatient aftercare

After the operation your pet is in good hands with us. Close post-operative inpatient supervision ensures a safe recovery phase, consistent pain management and structured rehabilitation, so that your pet regains full, lasting weight-bearing capacity as quickly as possible.
